I called today as I have received my cervical screening reminder.
I knew to call at a later time and thankfully was not subjected to the usual, 45 minute wait for an answer.
I am a full time working single mother and asked to please have this on one of the later evenings, early mornings or possibly a weekend. I am shocked to find out you have none of these available for cervical screening! Am I to presume women do not work and can there for come into the surgery as and when you are able to accommodate us!
This is not a pleasant experience at the best of times, but having to use half a holiday day for it makes it all that much worse.
Burnham Health Surgery, getting worse with each passing year!
My child is suffering from severe cough/chest infection from last 6+ weeks. And this cough has been coming and going from over 2+ months.
Had an appointment with one of the Doctors at the surgery, who was reluctant to prescribe antibiotics and when I provided a rational that, it might be the same bacteria which is appearing again and again, the doctor we convinced and prescribed a dose of antibiotics. And asked if the situation doesn’t get better in 2 weeks, I should be ok a follow up appointment.
The cough got worst in these 2 weeks and when I rebooked the appointment, we were seen by a nurse and not even a doctor. The nurse suggested that they will take my child’s blood test to check for white/red blood cells. When I enquired that what will the blood count prove, she was slightly nervous and advised us to use an inhaler, it might asthma. This is beyond embarrassment. The child has green mucus, which is causing the cough, what has that got to do with asthma. When we asked to be referred to a child specialist, the nurse response was let’s wait for another 2 weeks, to see how things are progressing and then they will decide on whether make the referral. It is shameful. My child is going to school on a regular basis, where there was a wide spread of COIVD, and it might be that her lungs are infected but our health centre is reluctant to give a proper treatment. This is how a 5 years old child health is taken care of at Burnham Health Centre.
I have been trying to contact the surgery and have found that beyond taking the time off to attend face to face there is effectively no way to do so - the one phone number ends after an automated message and there is no email address or other format to either contact the surgery or book an appointment.
To ask about involvement in clinical decisions is at the point of farce since as yet it seems nigh on impossible to get to a point where I am able to book said appointment, let alone have a discussion with a clinician about my health issue.
Impossible to get an appointment with any Doctor for a face-to-face assessment
Front-desk staff very arrogant and unhelpful. Disregard for patient's sensitivity, education or ethnic background. This staff does not like human beings.
Impossible to get appointment on line. Recorded message (AI-Artificial Idiot) advises to call at 8:30 a.m. When calling at 8:30 a.m. the AI advises that all appointments are taken. Call tomorrow. The cycle repeats itself again.
When Doctor leaves a callback message, one cannot call back as there is no Caller ID or phone number to call back on.
Having had a Detached Retina procedure (4 of them on same eye), a specific Doctor is assigned to follow my case by the Prince Charles Eye Clinic. All history is forwarded to the Doctor. I cannot see the Doctor so far to do a check up so I am able to return to my full-time job. The front desk staff turn me away. They are blunt most of the time, indicating a shortfall in education basics.
Burnham Clinic Center services has deteriorated exponentially over the past 2 years and I do not see any signs of improvement for a foreseeable time in future. Doctors are great, front desk staff are useless. They should not be working with human beings.
I called the surgery no appointments, called 111 gave all my symptoms was told I should get a call from my GP, but to call them to let them know. Rang the doctors again, on hold in a queue for 1 hour, explained to receptionist and was told they are full to capacity and to ring 111 again.
I am a receptionist at a doctors so I understand how difficult it is , but we would not turn someone away when they were obviously I'll enough to call 111.
It is now closing time and I have got nowhere, I ask myself why bother.
I would like to add the doctors are brilliant at Burnham, it only we could get to see them.
